Area Light Goose Population Some snow geese roosting on the area at night.
Off-Area Light Goose Population Area staff have seen a few light geese starting to pass thru our general area (between Chillicothe and Brookfield).
Hunting Pressure Have not seen any field spreads yet in our area.

Pools/Units Open for Hunting The East Side Refuge, West Side Refuge and the two fields on either side of the entrance road (north of the abandoned railroad bed) are closed to light goose hunting. The remainder of the area is open to light goose hunting.
Area Hunt Procedures All hunters must check in prior to hunting, and check out at the conclusion of their hunt, through the Hunter Check-In Room located on the west end of the shop building.

Area Hunt Procedures Pools 1,2,6,7,8 and 9 are refuge. Hunters are required to obtain a Daily Waterfowl Hunting Tag prior to hunting and return harvest cards at the completion of their hunt. Daily tags are located in the hunter check-in room on the north side of the headquarters building.

Area Hunt Procedures Self check-in starts at 4AM daily at area headquarters front porch. Fill out green card and put top half in a slot indicating which unit you are hunting. Hunting allowed 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. All hunters must check out at the end of each day's hunt by filling out the green card and depositing in the slot.

Snow goose numbers on and around Otter Slough have been highly variable for the past few weeks. Populations have ranged from 1,500 to 60,000 and seem to change daily.

Area Hunt Procedures Ten Mile Pond is open to self-check light goose hunting. Hunters must fill out a green card at area headquarters and place the top portion of the card in the corresponding slot in the kiosk. Hunters may not check in earlier than 4:00am. Only one party is allowed per unit and there is a max party size of 4 people. Hunters must check out by filling out the bottom portion of the green card and drop both portions of the card in the drop box. The refuge is closed to all activities through the conservation order. All other units outside of the refuge are open for hunting. Additional information and maps can be found at the area headquarters kiosk or call (573) 649-9491.

Larger flocks of snow geese have been moving through the area the past week. Up to 15,000 have rested on Pool 1 over the weekend and 2500 have been seen in the north portion of Unit A. Most bird use is on private land to the North and East of Duck Creek.

Pools/Units Open for Hunting Beginning Feburary 1, 2015 the entire area will be open for hunting with the exception of the Permanent Wildlife Refuge. See area map for details.
Area Hunt Procedures Hunters must self-register at the area headquarters by filling out the green Daily Waterfowl Tag found in the self-registration booth just north of the lobby entrance. Once registered, hunters must check out by returning the bottom portion of the tag to report their harvest, even if they chose not to hunt or nothing was harvested.
