Area Light Goose Population Have a few flocks of snow geese still using the area periodically. Acivity level has declined a lot in the past week. Still lots of swans, dark geese and ducks.
Off-Area Light Goose Population Most snow geese have migrated on north of this general area.

Pools/Units Open for Hunting The East Refuge, West Refuge and the two fields on either side of the entrance road (north of the abandoned railroad tracks) are closed to light goose hunting. The remainder of the area is open to light goose hunting.
Area Hunt Procedures All hunters must check in prior to hunting and check out at the conclusion of their hunt through the Hunter Check-In Room located on the west end of the shop building.

Area Hunt Procedures Pools 1,2,6,7,8 and 9 are refuge. Hunters are required to obtain a Daily Waterfowl Hunting Tag prior to hunting and return harvest cards at the completion of their hunt. Daily tags are located in the hunter check-in room on the north side of the headquarters building.

Area Hunt Procedures Self check-in starts at 4AM daily at area headquarters front porch. Fill out green card and put top half in a slot indicating which unit you are hunting. Hunting allowed 1/2 hour before sunrise to 1/2 hour after sunset. All hunters must check out at the end of each day's hunt by filling out the green card and depositing in the slot.

Area Hunt Procedures Ten Mile Pond is open to self-check light goose hunting. Hunters must fill out a green card at area headquarters and place the top portion of the card in the corresponding slot in the kiosk. Hunters may not check in earlier than 4:00am. Only one party is allowed per unit and there is a max party size of 4 people. Hunters must check out by filling out the bottom portion of the green card and drop both portions of the card in the drop box. The refuge is closed to all activities through the conservation order. All other units outside of the refuge are open for hunting. Additional information and maps can be found at the area headquarters kiosk or call (573) 649-9491.

Larger flocks of snow geese have been moving through the area the past week. Up to 15,000 have rested on Pool 1 over the weekend and 2500 have been seen in the north portion of Unit A. Most bird use is on private land to the North and East of Duck Creek.

Pools/Units Open for Hunting For the 2014 Snow Goose Conservation Order all portions of the area will be open except those areas designated as "Wildlife Refuge". The "Wildlife Refuge" includes all of Atkinson Lake and portions of those fields surrounding the north and south campgrounds. Consult the area brochure for more information. Hunters are not required to hunt from blinds.
Area Hunt Procedures All waterfowl hunters must self-register at the area headquarters before going afield by completing the Daily Waterfowl Hunting Tag found just north of the entrance door on the north shed. Once registered hunters must check out before leaving the area by returning the bottom portion of the card to the self-registration box, even if they didn't hunt or harvested nothing.

No birds are being seen off the area. We did see a couple very small flocks of migrators early last week but none of them stopped. This will probably be the last report of the 2014 Snow Goose Conservation Order. 24 hr recoded Hotline number is 417-432-1074 and the office number is 417-432-3414. Hotline will only be updated when conditions or bird numbers change significantly.
